Team 3: Health economics and aging

This team, which closely associates economists and epidemiologists, is active in three main areas:

  • Research on the demand for “long-term care” in Europe, with particular emphasis on the development of an economic micro-simulation model integrating epidemiological scenarios of dependency in the elderly.
  • The development of longitudinal observation tools to study physicians’ attitudes and behaviours in ambulatory medicine, thereby enabling the quality of these practices to be evaluated in terms of economics and public health.
  • In association with team 2, research on the macroeconomic impact of major diseases and on economy of health systems in the developing countries, which are currently facing an epidemiological transition in relation to the increase in incidence of chronic diseases.

These areas of research are investigated using methods in economic theory and econometrics in combination with public health approaches: choice-modelling, adaptation of preference revelation methods in the field of health and multi-level econometrics. Also important is the setting-up of and/or participation in large scale empirical studies (Longitudinal panel of General Practitioners in 5 French regions; National health surveys).
