Team 1 : Cancer, Biomedicine and Society

Team 1, which works in collaboration with clinicians and biologists at the Paoli-Calmettes Institute (Regional Centre for the Fight against Cancer, Marseilles) and the regional network of oncologists (ONCOPACA-CORSE network), covers three main areas of research.

  • Multidisciplinary analysis of the impact of technological innovations in cancer prevention, diagnostics and care, particularly in the field of oncogenetics and pharmacogenomics.
  • Assessment of quality of life and global (social, economic, psychological, etc) living conditions of cancer survivors
  • Multidisciplinary analysis of health providers-patients interactions and communication of cancer risks and their associated psychological, social and public health consequences.

These approaches are carried out using: a) longitudinal observational epidemiological methods (e.g. the ELLIPSE regional cohorts: studying the mid and long term psychosocial impact of breast cancer on a sample of 500 women younger than 40 years and of 800 women 65 years old and over); b) cross-sectional population surveys (e.g. survey in a national representative sample of 4,000 patients wo years after primary diagnosis of cancer) experimental methods (e.g. economic analysis alongside randomised trials)
