After his PhD in environmental economics (University Paris 1-1982), Jean-Paul Moatti specialized in health economics with an emphasis on applied research in the field of economic evaluation of medical innovations (oncology, AIDS) and of microeconomic analysis of health risk and preventive behavious. Since 2000, his research has tended to focus on various aspects of health economics in developing countries, including access to essential drugs.
In addition to his role as Director of SE4S, Pr Moatti is currently vice-chair of the Scientific Advisory Council of the French NIH (INSERM) and Special Advisor to the Director of French Agency for AIDS and hepatites Research (ANRS). He is also a member of the Advisory Committee on Health Research (ACHR)
